AGM

The fate of The Friends of Sir Joe’s Motspur Park Is in your hands.

Join us for Friends of SJHMPF AGM

When: Saturday 12th November 10am

Where: Pavilion in Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing field Park (Rascals)

When The Friends were formed in 2004, Sir Joe’s park was very different to the park we see today. Anti-social behaviour was a frequent occurrence and facilities were limited and run down. The Friends secured funding in partnership with Merton Council to deliver:

  • Basketball courts

  • Tennis Courts

  • Extend planting of The Millennium Woodlands

  • Refurbished Crazy Golf

Our most recent project has been to fund refurbishment of the mini golf which we were delighted to open in July 2022.

We partner with Riverfly as volunteers for The Environment Agency taking the Beverley Brook invertebrate count monthly.

From parties in the park, dog shows and wellbeing festivals, our objectives have been to ensure Sir Joe’s is an accessible green space which is a welcoming to all. To this end we have led campaigns to keep the paddling pool open, on opposing detrimental planning applications, preventing car parking fees and maintained a dialogue with Merton Council to ensure Sir Joe’s has an adequate management plan.

In 2019 we refurbished “The Hut” and in partnership with ID Verde, and have trained many young people in their first customer role serving artisan ice creams and serving the community staffing the mini golf.

The fate of The Friends is now in your hands. We have a small committee and are facing closure without the support of volunteers for our vacant roles: Chair and Secretary. Please attend our AGM and learn how you can contribute to the future of The Friends. We look forward to welcoming you.
