Sir Joseph Hood Memorial Playing Field was the first park in the London Borough of Merton to win the Green Flag award in 2007. It won the award again in 2008, 2009 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and when we lost it in 2015 the reinvigorated friends were intrinsic in the campaign to win it back for 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019!

The Friends have helped raise an amazing £96,000 so far to help improve the park.

As funding cuts have meant that grants are much more difficult to come by since 2016 The Friends have been working hard to raise their profile and rely on events, donations and enterprise to raise funds applying for grants where applicable. In 2016 £10,000 was raised and has been ring-fenced to go towards a new Splash Pad to replace the existing paddling pool which is under constant threat of closure.

The Friends also organise spring bulb planting, regular litter picks, community days and enabled new seating fencing and sports equipment to be installed and more.

The more Friends there are, the louder our voice! Please do lend us your support. Find out more about joining the Friends.
